Alex Ursua, Class of 2014, pulls pickleweed under the Wawamalu Bridge at Ka’iwi State Scenic Shoreline. He and his fellow classmates of the Project Pono elective help the community by painting over graffiti, picking up trash, and removing invasive plant species. Pickleweed (Batis maritima) has numerous common names such as turtle weed, saltwort and beachwort.
