Cassandra Tancinco, Class of 2015, swings on the swing set in one of the playgrounds at Lydgate State Park on the island of Kaua‘i. She was playing the role of Alex, a high school student attending a photography conference in her class’s short film production, Kaua‘i Turnaround. The ULSMedia Group created the short film during their recent photography and film retreat on Kaua‘i.
Kilauea Point Lighthouse stands tall against a near cloudless sky. The lighthouse, which is part of the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, was built in 1913 and replaced with an automatic beacon in 1976. The Refuge was established in 1985 to protect nesting seabird colonies, but is well known for its wide variety of native Hawaiian coastal plants and other animals, such as humpback whales and spinner dolphins. An anthurium peeks out from under the shade of other plants at the 2 acre farm of Tropical Flowers Express located on the island of Kaua‘i. Recently, students in the Film and Photography elective class traveled to Kaua‘i for a photography and film retreat. Anthurium is one of the largest and most complex genera of the botanical family Araceae, and includes hundreds of different species. Jocelyn Ki
